A little word about William DeGolyer. He is originally from northern Florida where he grew up “country style” with a pony named Dixie. He later went out west to college in Rexburg, ID where he met the love of his life, Elizabeth. They married and have three children and currently seven grandchildren. Shortly after the birth of their first child, he joined the Army where he trained to become a Special Forces Green Beret. An army assignment to Brigham Young University brought him to Utah to work with cadets. After retiring from the military he began working for the Veterans Administration and worked there for 8 years before leaving to pursue his passion for saddle making. He now lives with his wife in northern Utah in a little community just west of Ogden with horses all around. William made his first saddle while he was still in the army. He found an older saddle, took it apart, made patterns out of it and after much research and labor created a beautiful saddle. He attended Saddle making school studying under Dale Moore at Montana Horseman Saddle Building School. He completed both the beginner and advanced courses. He is a member of the Colorado Saddle Makers Association. In 2017 he set up shop on his property in Taylor, Utah. He does amazing work and loves every minute of it…but then I am a bit biased. — Elizabeth DeGolyer
